There are many common, and not so common, skin infections. The treatment option we recommend will depend on many factors. However, treatment always begins with a visual assessment and diagnosis of the skin.

We can recommend a treatment for the following skin infections:

• Abcess: An abcess is a pocket of pus that collects beneath the skin. They may cause discomfort and swelling of the skin in the affected area.
• Athlete’s Foot: Athlete’s foot is a fungal infection that causes itchy and painful rashes to develop on the foot. Treatment often involves topical medications.
• Boils: A boil is a pus-filled bump that is typically caused by an infected or inflamed hair follicle. It can become painful, but can also be treated at home.
• Candidiasis: This is a fungal yeast infection that commonly affects the mouth. It can lead to white patches in the mouth, tongue and throat.
• Cellulitis: Cellulitis is a bacterial skin infection that produces red, swelling skin. This infection can spread quickly and most often affects the legs.
• Chicken Pox: Chicken pox is a common infection that typically affects children. It causes itchy, blistery rashes to form all over the skin.
• Condyloma (HPV, Warts): This is the growth of wart-like symptoms that develops around the genitals and anus. It is a sexually-transmitted HPV infection.
• Erysipelas: Erysipelas is a form of cellulitis that tends to affect the surfaces of the skin more than the deeper layers. It spreads quickly and can cause redness, burning, and pain.
• Folliculitis: This is the inflammation of hair follicles, causing swelling and pain. It may be more common in patients with acne or those who shave frequently.
• Granuloma: Granuloma is the growth of tissue in response to infection and inflammation.
• Herpes Simplex Virus: Herpes can cause sores on the mouth and genitals, and is one of the most common STDs.
• Impetigo: This condition is also called school sores, due to its prevalence among children. It causes red bumps on the mouth, face, hands, and feet.
• Jock Itch: Jock itch is a fungal infection that affects the genitals and buttocks. It causes itchy, red rashes.
• Lyme Disease: Lyme disease is an infection caused by a tick-carried virus. It can cause flu-like symptoms and a rash at the site of the tick bite.
• Nail Fungus: This is a fungal infection that can cause the nails to weaken and crumble. They can also become yellowish or otherwise discolored.
• Ringworm: Ringworm is a highly contagious infection that is often accompanied by red, itchy patches. When the scalp is affected, it may cause bald spots.
• Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever: Like Lyme disease, this condition is caused by a tick bite. In addition to a rash, it can cause high fever and vomiting.
• Scabies: Scabies is a very itchy condition caused by small mites burrowing into the skin. It is contagious and can last for months if left untreated.
• Shingles: Shingles is a viral infection that reactivates the chicken pox virus. It causes a painful rash.
• Staph Aureus: Often referred to simply as staph, this bacterial infection commonly effects the nose and skin. The symptoms may resemble acne.
• Tinea Versicolor: This fungal infection causes discolored patches of the skin to develop. It is not contagious, but symptoms can last for months if left untreated.
• Yeast Infections: A yeast infection affects the vaginal region, and affects most women during their lifetime. Topical creams and oral medications can quickly alleviate the infection.
