Laser Hair Removal
For unwanted facial or body hair, this proven hair reduction technique can be the perfect solution because it targets the root of the hair follicle.
What is Laser Hair Removal?
Laser hair removal is a proven hair reduction technique that can help patients achieve the long-term and even permanent removal of unwanted facial and body hair. Using laser technology, we are able to target the root of the hair follicle, safely heating it and destroying it. Once the follicle is treated, it will no longer be able to produce hair growth. With this approach, patients can prevent hair growth in nearly any area on the body where unwanted hair growth occurs.
At Goodman Dermatology, we use the Elite laser for laser hair removal. This allows us to safely perform laser facial hair removal and laser body hair removal. Patients often request laser hair removal face treatments to address the eyebrows and upper lips. We are also able to perform laser hair removal in the following areas:
- Chest
- Back
- Arms
- Armpits
- Legs
- Bikini line
Laser Hair Removal FAQs
The cost of your laser hair removal will vary depending on the extent of treatment necessary. At Goodman Dermatology, we understand that each patient is entirely unique. With different skin types, cosmetic features and treatment needs, each patient deserves a personalized treatment that is designed with them in mind. For these reasons, we are not able to provide an exact cost for treatment until we have the opportunity to assess your treatment goals and develop a personalized treatment plan.
During your consultation, we will discuss your needs and treatment goals in order to determine this treatment plan and inform you of your laser hair removal cost. To make our treatments more affordable for our patients, we are proud to offer financing options through CareCredit.
Your laser hair removal treatment will be customized based on your skin type, hair type, and the part of the body being treated. While most patients agree that laser hair removal is less painful than waxing, we can provide a topical numbing agent to help make the treatment process more comfortable.
During treatment, a handheld laser device will be used to target hair follicles in the desired treatment area. As they absorb the heat from the laser device, we will continue moving the laser around to target the rest of the treatment area. This process can usually be completed in 30 minutes or less, but the size of the treatment area will directly influence the length of treatment.
After laser hair removal, you may experience some redness, sensitivity or irritation in the treatment area. These side effects typically resolve within a few days. Within a few weeks of treatment, hair in the treated area will begin to shed.
There is no downtime or recovery period necessary after laser hair removal. However, depending on the extent of the side effects you experience, you may need to take care to protect the skin from irritants such as excessive sun exposure following your treatment.
Once hair begins to shed following laser hair removal, you will notice that many hairs grow back thinner or do not grow back at all. Since hair grows in different stages, however, multiple treatments will be necessary in order to achieve complete hair removal in any given areas. For most patients, this requires between three and six treatments sessions.
During your consultation, we will discuss how many treatments are recommended for best results. After following the recommended treatment plan, patients will go months or even years without experiencing additional hair growth.
