• Hemangiomas: These “birthmarks” often develop shortly after birth, and may require drainage or surgical removal.
• Hives: Hives are a skin rash that is caused by an irritant, such as food or cosmetic products.
• Moles: Moles are generally harmless, but when they develop quickly or grow abnormally, they can be a sign of skin cancer.
• Molluscum: This viral skin infection resembles chicken pox, causing bumps to appear all over the body. They are, however, harmless.
• Rosacea: Rosacea is a condition that resembles acne, causing red, pus-filled bumps to appear on the skin.
• Skin Cancer: Surprisingly, children can be affected by skin cancer, especially if they have a predisposition. Limiting your child’s sun exposure during the hot afternoon hours can help minimize the risk.
• Skin Exam: A full-body skin exam is the best way to detect skin cancer early and keep an eye on developing skin conditions and symptoms.
• Vascular Abnormalities: Vascular abnormalities often appear shortly after birth. They are often benign, but they are frequently misdiagnosed. Drainage is often the best approach for treatment.
• Warts: Warts are a common condition, but once developed, can spread quickly if not treated. These can be particularly common in children.
