IPL Photofacial

Are you looking for a laser treatment that can rejuvenate the skin with minimal downtime? If so, you may want to consider the IPL photofacial treatment at Goodman Dermatology. We offer this and other advanced laser treatments to the men and women living in and around Roswell, Marietta / East Cobb, Woodstock and Dawsonville, GA.

What is an IPL Photofacial?

An IPL photofacial is a skin rejuvenation technique that uses quick bursts of laser energy to address a range of skin concerns. IPL stands for intense pulsed light, which is ideal for targeting brown spots, broken capillaries, and rosacea symptoms. When laser energy is delivered into these conditions, it will heat and destroy darkened or otherwise discolored skin pigments. As a result, these conditions will fade away following treatment.

The IPL treatment also stimulates collagen and elastin production in skin, which can help address lines, wrinkles, and enlarged pores. If you are seeking treatment for any of the cosmetic concerns mentioned above, you may be a good candidate for the IPL photofacial treatment.

How Much Does an IPL Photofacial Cost?

The cost of your IPL photofacial will vary depending on the extent of treatment necessary. At Goodman Dermatology, we understand that each patient is entirely unique. With different skin types, cosmetic features and treatment needs, each patient deserves a personalized treatment that is designed with them in mind. For these reasons, we are not able to provide an exact cost for treatment until we have the opportunity to assess your treatment goals and develop a personalized treatment plan.

During your consultation, we will discuss your needs and treatment goals in order to determine this treatment plan and inform you of your IPL photofacial cost. To make our treatments more affordable for our patients, we are proud to offer financing options through CareCredit®.

What Can I Expect During the IPL Photofacial Treatment?

The IPL photofacial treatment is generally well-tolerated, so no anesthetic is necessary. However, we will apply a topical cooling gel prior to treatment in order to minimize any discomfort. As treatment begins, the handheld IPL device will be maneuvered around the skin as quick bursts of light energy are delivered to the desired treatment area. Most patients compare the feeling of treatment to a snap or a prick in the skin. The IPL photofacial treatment typically takes about 30 minutes to complete, but can take longer depending on the size of the treatment area.

Are There Any Side Effects After an IPL Photofacial?

After your IPL photofacial, you may experience swelling or redness in the skin. These side effects typically fade within a day or two. You may also notice that treated sun spots and age spots appear darker than normal. This is temporary and expected; it is a sign that the pigments have absorbed the light energy and the treatment is working.

Is There Any Downtime Required After an IPL Photofacial?

There is no downtime necessary after an IPL photofacial. However, due to the side effects and sensitivity of the skin, you will need to take certain precautions for a few weeks after treatment. This includes avoiding unprotected sun exposure for a few weeks, and avoiding hot baths, shower, or exercise for the first 48 hours after treatment.

What Kind of Results Can I Expect After My IPL Photofacial?

The results from the IPL photofacial treatment will develop gradually in the weeks and months following your treatment session. You will notice a reduction in cosmetic skin concerns, as well as improvements in skin laxity, over the course of treatment. The number of treatments necessary for optimal results will depend on the cosmetic concerns addressed with treatment. For most patients, we recommend a series of three treatment sessions for best results.
