Larkin Community Hospital Program – Dermatology, Roswell, GA – 0801200030

About Residency Programs

The Goodman Dermatology Residency Program is an ACGME-accredited dermatology residency sponsored by Larkin Community Hospital (Miami, FL). Training occurs at Goodman Dermatology’s clinical campuses throughout the greater Atlanta metropolitan area. Established in 2013, the program provides comprehensive clinical, surgical, dermatopathology, and academic training in a high-volume dermatology environment serving diverse patient populations. Our mission is to prepare residents to become clinically outstanding, ethical, and compassionate board-certified dermatologists who are capable of excellence in community practice, academic medicine, research, and leadership.

Unique Program Distinction – Dual Board Eligibility Pathway

Goodman Dermatology is one of the only dermatology training environments in the United States that offers a pathway to dual board certification in private practice:

  • American Board of Dermatology — Dermatology

  • American Board of Dermatology — Micrographic Surgery & Dermatologic Oncology (MSDO)

Through our integrated ACGME-accredited Mohs Micrographic Surgery Fellowship, selected residents may continue seamlessly into fellowship training without having to relocate or change institutions — allowing continuity of mentorship, surgical progression, and academic development.

Residents in this pathway benefit from:

  • High surgical volume

  • Advanced reconstruction exposure (flaps, grafts, complex closures)

  • Continuity of care from biopsy through reconstruction

  • Direct one-on-one training with MSDO-boarded Mohs surgeons

Program Structure & Training Enviornment

Residents participate in a structured three-year curriculum (PGY-2 through PGY-4) that includes:

  • Medical Dermatology

  • Pediatric Dermatology

  • Procedural & Surgical Dermatology

  • Mohs Micrographic Surgery

  • Dermatopathology (with regular slide review sessions)

Training at multiple clinical sites exposes residents to a wide cross-section of patient demographics, disease severity, and practice models.

Didactics & Academic Curriculum

The academic curriculum includes:

  • Weekly dermatology core lectures

  • Dermatopathology unknowns and Kodachrome reviews

  • Journal club focused on evidence-based medicine

  • Grand rounds and morbidity/mortality conference

  • Milestone-based evaluations

  • Board preparation aligned with ABD exam content

Business, Practice Management & Medicolegal Education

In addition to comprehensive clinical training, residents receive formal instruction in the operational and professional aspects of dermatology, including:

  • Medical coding and documentation (E/M, surgical coding, RVUs, modifiers)

  • Billing and revenue cycle management

  • Contract review and negotiation (compensation models, restrictive covenants, partnership track)

  • Medicolegal principles (risk mitigation, deposition preparation, patient safety documentation)

These sessions are taught directly by:

  • Marcus Goodman, DO — Program Director

  • Certified medical coding and billing specialists

  • Practice administrators with operational oversight

  • Legal partners providing contract and medicolegal education

Residents graduate uniquely prepared to transition into practice with confidence in both clinical medicine and real-world business/administrative decision-making.
